4. Myopia

Name: Chen.

Sex: Female.

Age: 19 years.

Occupation: A college-student.

Chief Complaint: Blurred vision of both eyes for 6 years.

History of Present Illness: Six years ago, the patient was a middle school student. At that time, she got blurred vision of both eyes slowly because of her hard study. Especially the things in the distance couldn' t be seen clearly while the things around her could be seen clearly. Through some physical examination, the illness was diagnosed as "Ametropia, Myopia. "She had been treated with some kinds of eye drop, relaxation and keep fit massage, but there was no obvious curative effect on her. Then she began wearing a pair of glasses whose diopter was 350° to improve her vision. In the recent days, she felt her vision became poorer and poorer so that she couldn' t see things clearly. Then she came here for treatment on September 7,1997.

Physical Examination: The patient was conscious with a normal general condition. The pulse was soggy and thready. The tongue was red with a thin layer of white fur. Both eyes' outward appearance was normal. The vision of the sinister eye was 0.3; the vision of the dextral eye was 0.4. There wasn't other abnormal sign.

Diagnosis: Ametropia: myopia.

Differentiation: It's asthenia of heart and spleen due to too much contemplation, which caused the eyes couldn't be nourished well by qi and blood. So that the divine light of the eyes became lusterless.

Therapeutic Principle: Nourishing heart and invigorating spleen; elevating qi and blood to eyes.
