    Chinese medicine,Traditional Chinese medicine,Chinese herbal,herbal tea,breast feeding period
    Health care of the breasts
Lactation may begin eight to twelve hours after the labor. The parturients should keep the nipples clean and dry and should not let the baby sleep with the nipple in the mouth. At the beginning of lactation, the parturients may often suffer from stagnation mastitis manifesting distension, hardness and pain of the breast. In this case, they may use local hot compress to dredge the mammary collaterals. They may take traditional Chinese drugs to promote lactation. In the case of cracked nipples or acute mastitis, the parturients may see a doctor in time.

    Supplementing nutrients
The parturients should supplement the dietary nutrients, abstain from irritative foods and abuse of tonics. For example, in the case of scanty milk, the parturients may drink more fish soup, chicken soup, and soup of pig's trotters, etc. In the case of galactorrhea or hypogalactia, they should see a doctor.

    Health care in daily life
The parturients should remain at ease in the mind, regular in daily life and a proper balance between work and rest. They should pay attention to contraception but should not take oral contraceptives to prevent the inhibition of milk secretion.

    Being cautious of administration
Many drugs may enter milk by means of blood circulation in the feeding mothers. For instance, infantile diarrhea may result from the administration of large amount of Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei). Besides, atropine, tetracycline, erythromycin, phenobarbital and sulfa drugs can be all discharged from the feeding mothers' mammary glands. Infantile poisoning may result from prolonged or large amount of administration of these drugs. Therefore, the administration should be handled with caution.
