2 Balancing the diet
Adequate supply of quantity of heat should be firstly guaranteed in the diet of physical workers. Secondly, select the food which can counteract or eliminate the hazardous factors in the food according to the different types of work. Supply salt-containing drink, vitamins B and C to supplement the loss of organic salt and water due to perspiration for those who engage in high-temperature operation; increase the proportion of fat in diet for those who engage in freezing environment; take care to supplement vitamin A and vitamin D for those who engage in the environment lacking sunlight like mines, tunnels and places under water; increase the intake of protein, carbohydrate and vitamin C in the diet for those who are long exposed to benzol to limit the intake of fat.
5.7.2.1 Bone-strengthening medicinal diets
5.7.2.1.1 Guishen Shanyao Soup with Pig Kidneys
The diet includes 10 g of Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis ) , 10 g of Dangshen (Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae), 10 g of Huaishanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), 2 pig kidneys (remove the fasciae and impure substance) and a proper amount of seasoning (soy sauce, ginger, green Chinese onion, garlic, vinegar and sesame oil). Put Danggui ( Radix Angelicae Sinensis ), Dangshen ( Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae ) and Huaishanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae) into a gauze bag. Then add a proper amount of water to decoct bag for 30 minutes. Next, scoop out the bag. At this time, place a small amount of vinegar, green Chinese onion together with pig kidneys into a pot and decoct these items with slow fire. Cut the kidneys into slices when they are cold. Afterwards, put the slices into the Guishen Shanyao Soup to be decocted for a while. Eating methods. Scoop out the kidney slices first and put them into a plate. Mix the slices with seasoning. Eat the slices and drink Guishen Shanyao Soup. Or leave the pig kidney slices in the soup. Then, add some seasoning. Eat the slices with the soup.
5.7.2.1.2 Eucommia fried with Kidneys
The diet includes 12 g of Duzhong ( Cortex Eucommiae), two pig kidneys (remove the fasciae and cut them into slices) and a proper amount of seasoning (cooking wine, ginger and green Chinese onion). First, add some clear water to Duzhong (Cortex Eucommiae) to be decocted for 30 minutes until the decoction is 50 ml. Then, add the cooking wine, 15 g of the seed powder of Gorgoneuryale and a proper amount of refined salt to the decoction. After stirring the decoction, mix the kidneys with the decoction. Next, put the decoction with all the ingredients into the pot to be stir-parched. When the meat is to be done, add the seasoning. The whole process is finished at this time.
5.7.2.1.3 Soup of Bone Marrow and Achyranthes
The diet includes 500 to 1,000 g of pig bone (the leg bone with marrow referred), 20 g of Huainiuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae) and 1,000 ml of clear water. Put the bone and Huainiuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae) into the water simultaneously. Decoct until the water boils. Then, add 50ml of millet wine to the decoction. After that, decoct the ingredients again with slow fire for 30 minutes. Finally, put a small amount of ginger, green Chinese onion and refined salt to the decoction. The prescription may be used as drink. It not only relieves thirst, but also strengthens the tendon and bone.
5.7.2.2 Muscle-strengthening medicinal diets
5.7.2.2.1 Gruel of Wheat and Round-grained Nonglutinous Rice
The diet includes 150 g of wheat, 60 g of round-grained nonglutinous rice, 15 g of Guiyuanrou (Arillus Longan), 10 Chinese dates, 60 g of refined sugar and 1000 ml of clear water. Cook thin gruel with all the above ingredients. Eat it when it is warm.
5.7.2.2.2 Shenyao Chinese dates Gruel
The diet includes 20 g of Dangshen (Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae), 30 g of Huaishanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae) (ground into powder), 30 g of Chinese dates, 50 g of round-grained nonglutinous rice and 1,000 ml of water. First, put Dangshen (Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae) into water to be decocted for 30 minutes. Then, scoop out it. Afterwards, place Chinese date and round-grained nonglutinous rice in the decoction and cook them together until the decoction boils. At this time, decoct the ingredients again with slow fire for 15 minutes. After that, put the powder of Huaishanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae ) into the decoction and decoct the decoction once more for a while. The whole process is finished. Add a proper amount of refined sugar when eating the gruel.
5.7.2.3 Tendon-strengthening medicinal diet
5.7.2.3.1 Tendon Paste
Soak 500 g of pork tendon or ox tendon in warm water for a day and night. Then, cook it until it gets pulpy. At this time, add a proper amount of salt to it. Finally, wait until the tendon is cold and turns into colloid substance. Take 2 to 3 spoonfuls of it each time with boiled water.
5.7.2.3.2 Eucommia Wine
Cut 50g of Duzhong ( Cortex Eucommiae) into slices and soak the slices in the bottle of 500g of red wine. Keep the bottle airtight. Shake it once a day for 7 to 15 days. Take 20 to 30 ml of the wine each time, once or twice a day.
