    3 Cerebroma
    Cerebroma is also called "intracranial tumor" (including two types of benign one and malignant one). The patients have healthy qi deficiency after the operative, chemical and radiation therapies, mostly manifested as asthenia of the liver and kidney and deficiency of qi and blood. Asthenia in origin and sthenia in superficiality exists in the patients with cerebral tumor at the stage of recovery.
    Syndrome differentiation and treatment
    Yin deficiency of the liver and kidney
    It manifests continuous headache, frequent vertigo, tinnitus, vexation, feverish palms and soles, dry mouth and eyes, red tongue with scanty body fluid, thready and rapid pulse. It is advisable to tonify the liver and kidney. The prescription used is the modified Qiju Dihuang Bolus (Bolus of Six Drugs, Rehmannia with Wolfberry and Chrysanthemum). In the case of asthenic wind disturbing the upper orifices, and subsequent severe headache and dizziness, add Gouteng (Ramulus Uncariae cure Uncis), Shijueming ( Concha Haliotidis ), Mingtianma (Rhizoma Gastrodiae ), Biejia ( Carapax Trionycis ), Mull (Concha Ostreae) and Guiban (Plastrum Testudinis) ; in the case of incoordination between the kidney and heart, restless sleep, add Yejiaoteng (Caulis Polygoni Multiflori), Suanzaoren (Se men Ziziphi Spinosae ), Baiziren ( Semen Biotae ), Hehuanpi ( Cortex Albiziae ) and Lianxin (Plumula Nelumbinis); in the case of night sweat due to asthenic heat forcing body fluid to come out of the body, add Wumei ( Fructus Mume), Bietaogan, Fuxiaomai (Fructus Tritici Levis ) and Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis ).
    Deficiency of qi and blood
    It manifests lassitude, hypodynamia, lustreless complexion, palpitation, short breath, poor appetite, insomnia, amnesia, pale tongue with whitish fur, thready and weak pulse. It is advisable to supplement qi and tonify blood. The prescription used is the modified Bazhen Decoction (Eight Precious Ingredients Decoction). In the case of splenogastric asthenia and anorexia, add Baibiandou ( Semen Dolichoris Album), Chaoguya (parched Fructus Oryzae ), Chaogumaiya ( Fructus Hordei ) and Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) ; in the case of nausea and vomiting due to adversely rising gastric qi, add Jiangbanxia (prepared Rhizoma Pinelliae ), Chaozhuru (parched Caulis Bambusae in Taeniam ), Suye (Foliurn Perillae) and Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis) ; in the case of palpitation and insomnia, add Suanzaoren ( Semen Ziziphi Spinosae ) , Longchi (Dens Draconis ), Hehuanpi ( Cortex Albiziae ) and Zhufushen ( Poria cure Ligno Hospite ).
    Internal obstruction of turbid phlegm
    It manifests severe headache, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, thoracic and epigastric stuffiness and tightness, greasy fur, taut and slippery pulse. It is advisable to eliminate phlegm and dredge collaterals. The prescription used is the modified Huatan Qingnao Decoction (Phlegm-Resolving and Brain-Refreshing Decoction). In the case of severe dizziness, distension and pain of the head, add Chuanbeimu (Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae ), Huoxiang (Herba Agastachis ), Jianbanxia ( prepared Rhizoma Pinelliae) and Dilong (Lumbricus); in the case of thoracic stuffiness and nausea, add Zhuru ( Caulis Bambusae in Taeniam), Huashi (Talcum), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae ), Zhike ( Fructus Aurantii ) and Foshoupian (Fructus Citri Sarcodatylis ).
    Blood stasis due to qi stagnation
    It manifests stabbing pain of the head with definite site worsened at night, dry mouth with disinclination to swallow water, occasional vomiting and nausea, deep red tongue or with ecchymoses and petechiae, deep and unsmooth pulse. It is advisable to regulate qi, activate blood circulation and dredge collaterals. The prescription used is the modified Tongqiao Huoxue Decoction (Decoction for Activating Blood Circulation). In the case of severe headache, add Tufuling (Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae ), Quanxie (Scorpio), Wugong ( Scolopendra ) and Dilong (Lumbricus) .
    Accumulation of toxic heat
    It manifests severe distending pain of the head, flushed complexion, dysphoria with feverish chest, palms and soles, thirst with inclination to cool drink, constipation, yellowish urine, slippery and rapid pulse. It is advisable to clear away heat, cool blood and dredge collaterals. The prescription used is the modified Xijiao Dihuang Decoction (Decoction of Cornu Rhinoceri Asiatici and Radix Rehmanniae). In the case of dysphoria with smothery sensation and thirst, add Shengshigao (Gypsum Fibrosum ), Zhimu ( Rhizoma Anemarrhenae ), Zhizi ( Fructus Gardeniae ) , Tianhuafen ( Radix Trichosanthis) and Xuanshen (Radix Scrophutariae).
    Endogenous liver wind
    It manifests dizziness, headache, restlessness, irascibility, numbness of limbs, repeated and sudden onset of clonic convulsion and tremor followed by paralysis, bitter taste, red tongue, yellowish and thin fur, taut and rapid pulse. It is advisable to calm the liver to stop wind. The prescription used is the modified Lingjiao Gouteng Decoction (Decoction of Antelope's Horn and Uncaria Stem). In the case of numbness of limbs, tremor and clonic convulsion, add Tufuling (Rhizoma Smilacis Gtabrae), Shijueming ( Concha Haliotidis ), Quanxie ( Scorpio ), Wugong ( Scolopendra ), Cishi ( Magnetitum ) and Daizheshi (Ochra Haematitum); in the case of blurred vision, distending pain of the head, add Daizheshi (Ochra Haematitum ) , Chuanbeimu (Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae), Chongweizi (Fructus Leonuri) and Cheqianzi (Semen Plantaginis).
    Rehabilitation methods
    Regulating emotions and recreation therapy

    Physical training
    Select Taijiquan, five mimic-animal games, eight-section brocade, etc. according the specific conditions of the patients' physical strength. For instance, certain disturbances in the movement or feeling of limbs may exist in the patients with cerebroma who have not received a radical cure. At this time, their physical training should be moderate and their movements should not be necessarily standardized. The patients with malignant cerebroma should avoid extremely strenuous movements and overfatigue.
    Acumox and massage
    (1) Acumox In the case of headache and dizziness, select Baihui (GV 20), Taiyang (EX- I-IN 5), Fengchi (GB 20), Yintang (EX - I-IN 3), Xiaguan (ST 7), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Neiting (ST 44), Waiguan (TE 5) and Lieque (LU 7) with the simultaneous use of the reinforcing and reducing manipulations in acupuncture; in the case of numbness of limbs and tremor, select the acupoints mostly related to limbs such as Jianyu (LI 15), Jianliao (TE 14), Quchi (LI 11), Shousanli (LI 10), Waiguan (TE 5) and Hegu (LI 4) for the treatment of upper limbs; Huantiao (GB 30), Yinmen (BL 37), Weizhong (BL 40), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Chengshan (BL 57), Taixi (KI 3) and Kunlun (BL 60) for the treatment of lower limbs; in the case of vomiting and nausea, select Zhongwan (CV 12), Zusanli (ST 36), Neiting (ST 44) and Neiguan (PC 6).
    (2) Massage In the case of hepatorenal yin deficiency, deficient qi and blood, select Touwei (ST 8), Shenmen (HT 7), Ganshu (BL 18), Shenshu (BL 23) and Yongquan (KI 1); in the case of phlegm stagnation obstructing collaterals, Danzhong (CV 17 ), Zhongwan (CV 12), Fenglong (ST 40), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Yintang (EX-HN 3) and Taiyang (EX- I-IN 5), with the pushing, grasping and rubbing methods as the main manipulations and pressing and wiping methods as accessary manipulations in massage. In the case of numbness and tremor of limbs, select the acupoints for simultaneous acupuncture and moxibustion. Meanwhile, use kneading, pressing and pushing manipulations as the main methods and grasping, twirling and foulage manipulations as the accessory methods. As for the patients with paralysis at the late stage of the disease, massage the whole body properly to dredge blood vessels and prevent bed sore.
    Dietary therapy
    In the case of hepatorenal yin deficiency, select Steamed Yangnao (Cerebrum seu Ovis ) with Gouqizi (Fructus Lycii); in the case of deficient qi and blood, select Longyanrou Gruel (Gruel of Arillus Longan ) or Stewed Chicken with Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) and Renshen (Radix Ginseng); in the case of amnesia and slow reaction after the operation, select Heizhima Sangshen Paste (Paste of Semen Sesami Nigrum and Fructus Mori); in the case of splenogastric asthenia after the operation or chemotherapy and radiotherapy, select Yiyiren Gruel (Gruel of Semen Coicis) and Huaishanyao Gruel (Gruel of Rhizoma Dioscoreae).
    Abstain from smoking, drinking, the pungent and irriative foods like uncooked green onion, hot pepper and mustard as well as the meat of pig's head. Eat more Chinese yam, lotus root, wax gourd, tremella, Xianggu mushroom, wild rice stem, celery, beef, fishes and turtle.
