Complications of skin

Complications

Prolonged itching and scratching may increase the intensity of the itch, possibly leading
to neurodermatitis (lichen simplex chronicus). Neurodermatitis is a condition in which an area of skin that's frequently scratched becomes thick and leathery. The patches can be raw, red or darker than the rest of your skin. Persistent scratching can also lead to a bacterial skin infection and permanent scars or changes in skin color.

Common skin disease

Psoriasis is characterized by an abnormally fast rate of skin regeneration. This means
psoriatic skin cells are produced 10 times faster than normal, at the same time that dead skin cells are shed at the normal rate. This causes the red, thick, inflamed plaques typical of psoriasis

Eczema is a general term for several types of inflammatory skin conditions. "Dermatitis" is
an interchangeable term, and one some doctors may use instead, such as "atopic dermatitis" versus "atopic eczema". All eczema is characterized by itching, scaling and possibly blisters, with varying degrees of redness. The severity and duration of illness varies from a few weeks of isolated occurrence to a lifelong condition.

Acne is one of the most common diseases of the skin, occurring most frequently in puberty. The extent and severity varies greatly, and it tends to diminish naturally by age 20. In women, however, it can flare again or anew in the 20s and 30s as a result of hormonal irregularity. Rarely, acne will persist for decades.

fungal or yeast organisms colonize the skin and produce various symptoms of blistering, cracking, itch and redness. The most well known are athlete's foot and ringworm. Excessive sweating often provides a friendly environment to fungus and yeast, and makes such patients more likely to catch an infection that persists.

Vitiligo is a disorder of skin depigmentation. The cause is unknown, although an autoimmune
presentation is suspected -- antibodies wrongly attack the pigment (melanin) producing cells of the skin. It is prevalent in all races and affects approximately one percent of thepopulation.Interestingly, the incidence goes up in war zones, indicating stress as a possible co-factor.

Herpes refers to a group of disorders which manifest with an eruption of red, painful
blisters or sores on the skin, genitals, lips or eyes.

Chinese herbal therapy is effective for a broad range of dermatological conditions. Acute or recurrent hives, lichen simplex, alopecia areata, premature hairloss, lichen planus, pytiriasis rosea, urticaria pigmentosa and ichthyosis are some examples.
