  • Nephrotic Syndrome Due To Deficiency Of Both Qi And Yin

    Main symptoms and signs: Inapparent edema, lustreless complexion, listlessness, hypodynamia, short breath without desire for speaking, dizziness, tinnitus, poor appetite, susceptibility to common cold, dry mouth and throat, red tongue with aplittle fur.

    Therapeutic methods: Supplementing qi and nourishing yin.
    Prescription and drugs The prescription used is the modified Liuwei Dihuang Pill (Pill of Six Drugs Including Rehmannia) composed of 10 g of Dangshen (Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae), 10 g of Huangqi (Radix Astragali seu Hedysari), 10 g of Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae), 10 g of Shanzhuyu (Fructus Corni), 15 g of Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), 10 g of Fuling (Poria), 8 g of Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis) and 8 g of Mudanpi (Cortex Moutan Radicis).

    Modification For the patients with qi deficiency, 15 g of Dangshen (Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae) and 15 g of Huangqi (Radix Astragali seu Hedysari) are used; for the patients with yin deficiency, 10 g of Xuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae) , 10 g of Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis) and 10 g of Gouqizi (Fructus Lycii) are included. In the syndrome differentiation for treatment of the above cases, for the patients with accompanying blood stasis, 10 g of Danshen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizea), 8 g of Taoren (Semen Persicae), 6 g of Honghua (Flos Carthami), 8 g of Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong) and 10 g of Yimucao (Herba Leonuri) are added. If complicated skin sore, or recurrent attack by pathogenic wind occurs, the disease can be treated according to the relevant syndromes of acute nephritis.
