    Acupuncture And Chiropractic

Have you been watching the Olympics? Wow...there certainly has been some exciting competition. I happened to tune in to a piece on East meets West. The TV segment showed the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine which included the use of cupping, needles, moxibustion, and herbs. Then they showed the use of various diagnostic and medication uses in treating illnesses such as cancer. The segment really showed how the Chinese were blending traditional Chinese Medicine with that of Western Medicine. I thought it was a very interesting segment. Those of you that have had Acupuncture treatments could really relate to it.

Acupuncture is an essential part of traditional Oriental medicine, a comprehensive system of health care with a continuous clinical history of over two thousand years.

These different modalities work with the natural vital energy that is inherent within all living things to promote the body’s ability to heal itself. This system of health care is used world wide. The ancient Chinese recognized a vital energy behind all life forms and life processes. This energy is called Qi (chee). In developing an understanding of the prevention and cure of disease, Acupuncturist’s discovered that this energy flows along specific pathways which are called “meridians.” Each pathway is associated with a particular physiological system and internal organ. Disease is considered to arise due to a deficiency or imbalance of energy in the meridians and their associated physiological systems.

Acupuncture points are located in specific anatomical landmarks along the meridians. The great thing about modern science is the ability to measure and detect these electrical charges at the acupuncture points and correlate the locations of these meridians.

Is Acupuncture safe? In the hands of a comprehensively trained acupuncturist, your safety is assured.

Acupuncture needles are sterile and are either disposable or autoclaved between treatments. If you have a preference, you should discuss the type of needles to be used with your practitioner. All needles used in my office are sterile and disposed of safely.
