Cyclical flowing and distribution of Large Intestine Meridian of Hand-Yangming
The large intestine meridian starts from the tip of the index finger. It runs upward along the radial side of the index finger and passes through the interstice of the first and second metacarpal bones, dipping into the depression between the tendons of m. extensor pollicis longus and brevis. Following the lateral anterior aspect of the forearm, it reaches the lateral side of the elbow where it ascends along the lateral anterior aspect of the upper arm to the highest point of the shoulder. Along the anterior border of the acromion, it goes up to the seventh cervical vertebra and descends to the supraclavicular fossa to connect with the lung. It then passes through the diaphragm and enters the large intestine to which it pertains.
The branch from the supraclavicular fossa runs upward to the neck, passes through the cheek and enters the gums of the lower teeth. Then it curves around the upper lip and crosses the opposite meridian at the philtrum on the governor vessel and upward to both sides of the nose to connect with the stomach meridian(see Fig.19)
Associated viscera: Large intestine and lung.
Associated organs: Mouth, lower teeth and nose.
Indications:Disorders of the mouth, teeth, nose and throat as well as diseases involving the lateral border of the upper limbs, anterior part of the shoulder and neck.

A.Location
On the radial side of the dorsal surface of the forearm and m the line connecting Yangxi(LI5) and Quchi(LI11), 4 cun below the cubital crease.
B. Locating methods
With the elbow flexed and slanted, acupoint is on lateral edge of radial side of forearm, 1 cun below Shanglian(L19).
C.Acupoint in anatomy: skin—subcutaneous tissue—antebrachial fascia—brachioradialis—extensor carpi radialis brevis—supinator. Skin is distributed by lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve. The acupuncturist stabs from anterior side of tegumentary nerve and superficial fascia, through antebrachial fascia, dorsal side of extensor carpi radialis longus, dorsal side of extensor carpi radialis longus and extensor carpi radialis brevis, then into supinator. All the above muscles are controlled by ramus profundus nervi radialis.
D. Needling and moxibustion
Needling: perpendicular needling 1.0-1.5 cun. Needling feeling: partially acerbity and swelling spread to arms and fingers (Figure 3-28).
Moxibustion: moxa cone or warm needling 3 to 5 zhuang, moxa stick for 5 to 10 minutes.
E. Function and Indication
Diseases of stomach intestine: abdominal pain, abdominal distension. Diseases on regions which pass the meridians and vessels: upper limb unable to move voluntarily, weakness of hands, elbows and shoulders.
