Acupoints on the head and neck

Xuanming (EX—HN15)

Location: Inside the mouth cavity, in the middle of the frenulum labii superioris.

Locating Methods: Sit down and lie back or supine, turn the upper lip up, then find the point in the middle of the frenulum labii superioris.

Acupoint in anatomy:
Mucous membrane ----- lower levels of the mucous membrane ----- muscular layer (musculi orbicularis oris). The mucous membrane inferior contains rich blood vessel and nerve ending, and it’s nerve is distributed by branch of the crotaphitic nerve.

Needling and moxibustion
1. Needling: perpendicular needling 0.1-0.2 cun, Needling feeling: partially swelling and aching, or fast insertion with triangle-edged needle or prick-acupuncture.

Moxibustion: Xuanming(EX-HN15) is not allowed to use moxibustion.
