Common Types of Syndromes
One type is stagnation of phlegm mingled with excessive heat, marked by a low and harsh voice, abundant, thick and yellowish phlegm, accompanied with bitter taste and dry throat, yellowish and greasy fur on the tongue, and slippery and rapid pulse.
Another type is dryness of the lung and scanty body fluid, marked by a hoarse voice, gradual loss of voice, accompanied with dry mouth and pharynx, itching and pain in the throat, or dry cough, reddened tongue with scanty saliva, and thready and rapid pulse.
Dietetic Chinese Drugs
Tangerine peel (Pericarpium Cirri Reticulatae) Decoct 9g of tangerine peel in water for oral administration. Take small doses at short intervals. It is applicable to patients with the type of stagnation of phlegm mingled with excessive heat.
Tea-leaves (Thea) Put the right amount of tealeaves in a small cloth bag, tie up its opening, add a spoonful of honey into the water after soaking the bag of tea-leaves in it and keep stirring until the honey dissolves in the water. Gargle with the water every 30 minutes, It is applicable to cases with the type of dryness of the lung and scanty body fluid.
Composite Recipes of Medicated Diet
Decoction of Radish and Chinese Honey Locust (Luobu Zaojiao Tang)
INGREDIENTS
white radish, Radix Raphani 1 pc.
Chinese honey locust fruit,Fructus Gleditsiae 1.5 g
PROCESS Have the white radish cut into slices and decocted in water together with the Chinese honey locust fruit.
DIRECTIONS Drink the decoction and eat the radish.
Juices of Radish and Fresh Ginger (Luobo Shengjiang Zhi)
INGREDIENTS
radish, Napus 250g
fresh ginger, Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens 30g
PROCESS Have the radish and fresh ginger cut into slices, pounded into a mash and wrung to get their juices.
DIRECTIONS Keep the juice in the mouth and swallow it slowly at short intervals. The above two recipes are both applicable to patients with the type of stagnation of phlegm mingled with excessive heat.
Recipe of Day Lily and Honey (Huanghuacai Fengmi Fang)
INGREDIENTS
day lily, Flos Hemerocalis Immaturus 30g
honey, Mel 30g
PROCESS Have the day lily washed clean, add 250 ml of water (about a bowlful) to cook it thoroughly.
DIRECTIONS Swallow the water slowly after mixing the honey with it and take it in three separate doses a day.
Recipe of Peanut and Honey (Huasheng Fengmi Fang)
INGREDIENTS
peanut kernel, Semen Arachidis 30g
honey, Mel 30g
PROCESS Have the peanut kernels rid of the red skin and well-cooked in the honey with addition of water.
DIRECTIONS Drink the water and eat the peanut kernels, twice a day, in the morning and in the evening respectively.
Drink of Honey and Borneol (Fengmi Bingpian Tin)
INGREDIENTS
borneol, Borneolum 0.6g
honey, Mel 30g
PROCESS Grind the borneol into fine powder and put it into a cup with honey.
DIRECTIONS Take it after infusing it with boiling water.
Decoction of Scrophularia Root, Ophiopogon, Liquorice and Platycodon Root (Xuan Mai Gan ffie Tang)
INGREDIENTS
scrophularia root, Radix Scrophulariae 12g
ophiopogon, Radix Ophiopogonis 12g
platycodon root, Radix Platycodi 10g
liquorice, Radix Glycyrrhizae 3g
PROCESS Make decoction for oral administration with the above ingredients.
The above composite recipes are applicable to cases with the type of dryness of the lung and scanty body fluid.
Gruel of Pear Juice (Lizhi Zhou)
INGREDIENTS
pear, Malum Piri 3 to 5
polished round-grained rice, Semen Oryzae Sativae 50g
crystal sugar right amount
PROCESS Have 3 to 5 pears washed clean, cut into pieces and pounded to get the juice; remove the dregs and put the juice, the polished round-grained rice and crystal sugar into an earthenware pot, add 400ml of water to make thin gruel.
DIRECTIONS Take it slightly warm two or three times a day. It has a remarkable effect of protecting and improving voice, especially for singers and announcers.
