    Introduced in this section is one of the traditional feasts of medicated diet served at Qilu Medicated Diets Restaurant, Jinan, Shandong Province. It is relatively fit to be used in spring and also can be taken for reference when you prepare medicated foods to be eaten in other seasons.

    Hawthorn Fruit and Fry-dried Pork
    (Shanzha Rougan)
          INGREDIENTS
          hawthorn fruit, Fructus Crataegi                     10g
         lean pork                                           250g
    PROCESS Cut lean pork into thick slices, wash hawthorn fruit clean for later use. Put the meat slices into the frying pan when the oil is eighty per cent hot and fry it until it becomes golden yellow. Take it out and have scallion sections,
    fresh ginger slices quick-fried in a bit of oil. Put in some water and then, the deep-fried meat slices and hawthorn slices. Add some salt, gourmet powder, cooking wine and white sugar. Heat it over a strong fire until it boils, and then stew it thoroughly over a low fire. Pour some sesame oil over the dish.
     
    EFFICACY Promoting digestion, eliminating stagnated food and promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis.

    INDICATIONS Feeling of fullness in the chest and stomach, loss of appetite, mass and constant pain in the abdomen.

    Astragalus Root, Wild Jujube Seed and Prawn
    (Qi Zao Da Xia)
         INGREDIENTS
         prawn, Penaeus Orient.dis                         500g
        astragalus root, Radix Astragali seu Hedysari      30g
         wild jujube seed, Semen Ziziphi Spinosae           30g
    PROCESS Decoct astragalus roots and wild jujube seeds in water to obtain the medicinal liquid; remove the feelers and legs from the prawns, put them in a container, and add the prepared medicinal liquid, salt, cooking wine, scallion and fresh ginger. Put the container in a bamboo steamer to steam until the prawns are well done.
     
    EFFICACY Replenishing the heart, tranquilizing the mind, nourishing the kidney and strengthening the spleen.
    INDICATIONS Impotence, premature emission, insomnia, dreamfulness, palpitation, shortness of breath and lassitude.
     
    Sichuan Fritillary Bulb and Pear
    (Beimu Liguan)
         INGREDIENTS
         Sichuan fritillary bulb, Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae
         water chestnut, Bulbus Heleocharis Tuberosae
         Pear, Malum Piri
        lotus seed, Semen Nelumbinis
    PROCESS Have pears peeled and hollowed with a small knife to make them "containers"; decoct fritillary bulb in water to obtain the medicinal liquid; cut water chestnuts and lotus seeds into dices; cut candied shreds of orange peel, pumkin, wax-gourd, or the lake, into dices; mix the prepared medicinal liquid, and the above-mentioned dices with ground crystal sugar; put the mixture into the pear-containers which are to be steamed in a bamboo steamer for a quarter of an hour. Take them out and spread condensed crystal sugar solution over the pears.
     
    EFFICACY Dispelling pathogenic heat from the lung and ventilating the lung-qi to relieve cough and asthma.
    INDICATIONS It is applicable to cough due to phlegm and heat in the lung, cough with difficulty to expectorate phlegm. For normal people, it can produce the feeling of comfort and ease in the chest and hypochondrium, and make their voice sonorous.
     
    Appetizing Fish Bails
    ( Kaiwei ruyuan)
        INGREDIENTS
          processed fish                   500g
          haw jelly                        100g
    PROCESS Chop the fish into mash, add egg white, salt, and gourmet powder to make filling; cut haw jelly into dices. Squeeze the fish filling into small balls, wrap up a haw jelly dice in each ball. Have the bails quick-boiled in boiling water
    until they are done. Take them out and put them on a shallow plate. Spread white transparent soup (made with chicken, duck and pork bones boiled together and thin-pasted starch mixed into it) over the balls and decorate them with cooked mushroom, cabbage (or other vegetables) heart and ham.
     
    EFFICACY Strengthening the spleen and stomach to induce appetite, removing stagnancy of indigested food and promoting digestion.
    INDICATIONS It is applicable to symptoms such as depression and fullness in the stomach due to stagnancy of indigested meat and sensation of discomfort in the abdomen after meal.
     
    Wolfberry Fruit and Shelled Fresh Shrimp
    (Gouqi Xiaren)
         INGREDIENTS
          shelled fresh shrimp                              500g
          wolf berry fruit, Fructus Lycii                    30g
    PROCESS Dip shrimps in starch paste, quick-fry them in hot oil and take them out; have scallion, fresh ginger quick-fried, put the shrimps and wolfbeny fruit into the pan, add salt, cooking wine and soup-stock to flavour it. Toss to have the ingredients turned and mixed thoroughly.
     
    EFFICACY Replenishing the liver and kidney, nourishing the vital essence and improving visual acuity.
    INDICATIONS It is applicable to lass tude and soreness in the loins and knees, giddiness and blurred vision.
     
    Lucid Ganoderma, Cordyceps and Duck
    (Ling Cao Yazi)
          INGREDIENTS
